Why people love Clever Container so much (full review)

If there’s one thing that suburban moms love more than stay at home direct sales opportunities, it’s organizing goodies and knick knacks.

Clever Container combines both, and they’ve made a killing.

Overview

Clever Container was launched over a decade ago, in July 2006, by a pair of friends and neighbors from the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan.

Eschebach grew up in a household with three younger siblings. If you were ever a big sister or brother, you know how annoying it is when the little one goes snooping through your stuff and playing with your toys. So she decided to organize and label everything she owned, from Barbies to Matchbox cars, as hers.

After she grew up and became a mom, she started a Clutter Cutters Club for other moms in her Michigan neighborhood. They’d all meet up, and Eschebach would help the moms with organizing projects to turn their houses around. This eventually evolved into a small business career for Eschebach, who became a professional organizer.

Meanwhile, her neighbor, Jennifer Weaver, was working part-time in direct sales for The Pampered Chef. At one of her in-home parties, the two women got together and decided to start their own direct sales company selling home organization products. Clever Container started in their basements with the bare minimum they could afford…which was less than 20 products.

At their first vendor fair, they completely sold out of their entire stock – $2,000 worth of merchandise. Within a few years, they received an offer from investors of $250,000 to expand the business as well as a warehouse space and a team of full-time employees. [1]

How much does Clever Container cost?
The Special Opportunity start-up kit with Clever Container is $99, and the Clutter Cutter kit is $149. The latter simply includes more product, but both include product.

Products

Clever Container sells a huge variety of organizing products (literally hundreds), particularly bags and containers. The company comes up with some pretty creative organizing solutions for real everyday needs. In other words, they’re not just shoving a useless pill in your face and claiming you need it.

The products are a little on the pricey side. No one’s dropping car payments to buy placebo pills, but they’re not as cheap as stuff you’d find at Target or Walmart.

They’ve got organizing products and home goods for every room in the house, and even stuff to help you organize your car and purse. Hampers, pantry organizers, bathroom caddies, tie racks, multi-tiered hangers, garbage bins for the car, and office supply organizers can all be found on their site.

Opportunity

There are five ways to earn money with Clever Container.

1. Sell Clever Container Products

Consultants make 25% commission on their personal sales. New Consultants start out at 20%, but are permanently bumped up to 25% when they hit over $1,000 in sales.

2. Get Rewarded for a Fast Start

Clever Container gives a Fast Start Bonus to new Consultants can make an extra 5% commission on all of their personal sales over $500 for their first three months.

3. Become a Power Seller

If you have a talent for selling storage bins and decorative bathroom caddies, you could sell enough to achieve an additional 3-8% commission on all your personal sales. This bonus is designed specifically for people who enjoy selling but aren’t interested in recruiting to make some extra money.

4. Referral Program

You get a bonus dependent on rank every time you personally refer a new consultant. Bonuses start at $50.

5. Become a Leader

This payout offers generational bonuses once you hit a certain level. Once you become an Associate Director, you get 4% commission on the sales of you Generation 1. Executive Directors get 4% commission on their Generations 1 & 2, a Generation 3 bonus of 3%, and a Generation 4 bonus of 2%.

As you can see, even their compensation plan is highly focused on product sales, with 3/5 ways to earn having nothing to do with recruitment. While recruiting massive teams is the only way to hit it big in this industry, it’s refreshing to see an MLM that actually has something more to offer than people at the top of a pyramid taking money from people at the bottom.

Recap

I like Clever Container. It’s definitely legit, and they’re doing honest business. They’ve got a great founder’s story, too – real heartwarming, especially to the loads of stay at home moms out there who would love nothing more than a clean house and a way to make money on the side.

It’s also still pretty small at just over 2,000 consultants, so while you’re not getting in at the ground level, you might still be getting in early.

However, I can’t say I see this company blowing up. The products fill a real need, but they’re not the sexiest to sell, and you can definitely find similar stuff for cheaper in retail stores. I think it’s going to be really hard to make more than a very humble part-time income with Clever Containers.

But if it’s financial freedom you seek and if you like automated ways to build passive income, there are better ways.
